CGGVeritas Chooses Allinea Software’s DDT Debugging Tool for Development Sites Worldwide

Warwick, United Kingdom – Allinea Software, a leading provider of innovative products for large-scale scalar and parallel high performance computing applications, today announced that its Distributed Debugging Tool (DDT) has been chosen for global deployment by leading geophysical company CGGVeritas.

Until the merger that created CGGVeritas in early 2007, the company had been using Allinea’s DDT tool for its key sites in the U.K., Singapore, Canada (Calgary) and the U.S. (Houston).”With the expansion of parallel computing and other technologies in the geophysics field, their developers had required a product without the long learning process and high recurrent costs of other debugging tools, and selected DDT,” says Dr. David Lecomber, CTO of Allinea Software.

So when the newly merged company reviewed its software procurement policy, the need to extend deployment of its debugging tool throughout its worldwide development sites became essential to reduce costs. After an intense testing period, CGGVeritas decided to use DDT on a global scale.

“The complex computations of seismic data processing and interpretation require substantial computing power and the highest accuracy, as exploration companies will use this data to decide where (or whether!) to drill for oil and gas.” says Gerard Carrere, Software Development Manager, R&D Processing Product Line for CGGVeritas. ”We needed a debugging tool that was easy to use, had a short learning curve and could be used efficiently by our programmers worldwide.”

“We had been using Allinea’s DDT product for a while on a number of our sites and were quite happy with it.” says Carrere. “After conducting further tests, we saw that worldwide deployment of DDT would increase the efficiency of our developers and the cost-effectiveness of our technology…and that we would realize a rapid return on investment.”
